'Battle Of The Ham' - Kansas City's First Tasting Of "Jamon Iberico" !!

This is a FIRST my friends! My Slow Food Convivium, in Kansas City, will have the first tasting of "Jamon Iberico" next month, at The Cellar Rat, in KC! Sign up early, this will sell out VERY QUICKLY!

Last year, Slow Food KC had a 'Battle Of The Olive Oils' and since it was such a huge success, we decided this year to do another "BATTLE"!

Ryan Sciara and I have put together the first public-tasting, in Kansas City, of the MOST FAMOUS HAM IN THE WORLD - JAMON IBERICO, along with Jamon Serano, Prosciutto di Parma, and Prosciutto di San Daniele, paired with six wines from Sicily & Spain. Ryan has some very interesting “undiscovered” wines from these two areas.

'Spanish Ham' is greatly prized as a gourmet food, both in Spain, and around the world. It is eaten regularly in most Spanish households. In fact, not only is Spain the largest producer of air-dried-cured ham, until recently, the importation of 'Spanish Ham', was not permitted by the US Department of Agriculture. However, there are currently Spanish companies, that are producing hams in strictly controlled, USDA approved facilities.

'Jamón Ibérico' – Ham made only from the Iberian pig. The breeding of the Iberian pig is restricted to an area in Southwestern Spain. Although fed some cereals, these pigs also roam the countrysides and feed on acorns. The curing process lasts from 14 to 36 months. THE HAM COSTS MORE THAN $100.00 PER POUND.

The cost is $50.00, per person, and believe me, IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!! The date is
March 27, 2008, @ 6:30 PM.
